Plastic Drop Container Disposal in Eye Care.

From 31 March 2025, new government regulations require all businesses with 10 or more employees to separate their waste into distinct categories. This means plastic drop containers must be collected and stored separately from general waste, food waste, and paper or card materials.

Proper separation is now a requirement, not just best practice. Please ensure all team members are aware of where plastic drop containers should be disposed.

Waste
segregation
supports
sustainability in several key ways:

Waste segregation is a practical starting point that
connects to environmental goals

Reduces landfill

When materials are properly sorted, less ends up buried in the ground.

Conserves natural resources

Separating materials means they can be reprocessed and used again.

Protects ecosystems

Correctly disposing of plastics prevent the from
entering waterways and oceans, where they cause
significant harm to wildlife and marine environments.

Supports a circular economy

Segregation is the first step in keeping materials in use for as long as possible.

Compliance and responsibility

For organisations, proper segregation also demonstrates a commitment to environmental responsibility, which
increasingly matters to patients, staff, and stakeholders in healthcare settings. In the eye care, separating plastic drop containers  from general waste ensures these materials do not contribute to plastic pollution.
